The German Radio Show, Deutsche Funksendung has been delighting German- speaking listeners for more than 45 years. Founded in 1965 and brought to Tampa Bay ten years later, the show is Tampa Bay's connection to ALL THINGS GERMAN. Host of The German Radio Show is German-American Susanne Nielsen. Listen to her interviews with German speaking studio guests from all over the world.
The German Radio Show offers listeners news, reports and interviews personalities from all walks of life, from stars of the stage whpo present music , traditional to contemporary, opera, operetta, musical, folk to contemporary pop and reports on a variety of topics.

The German Radio Show, also known by its original German title: Deutsche Funksendung, is filled with up-to-date information, beginning with news from Deutsche Welle. During the show, current events in West Florida and news and reports from the German cultural scene are showcased. Listeners love Susanne's Culture Mirror/Kulturspiegel with its Interviews with studio-guests from the arts and entertainment sector that liven up the German Radio Show.

Call in and email (
requests or ask questions about advertisers and events. The German Radio Show also goes out to listeners, at sponsor locations or clubs, and for special events like the many area Oktoberfests. WHO'S WHO on Deutsche Funksendung/German Radio Show?

SUSANNE NIELSEN is host/general manager of Deutsche Funksendung. Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, Susanne has lived in many parts of the world, among them Paris, France, in the US: San Francisco, California, North Carolina, Alabama, Florida, Iceland and spent time in Switzerland and England, more recently her travels have taken her to Asia. She regularly visits Europe, finding interesting stories and interview partners in Germany, France and Switzerland for Deutsche Funksendung's weekly blog/audio shows. She studied English literature and fine art and has taught art, art history/Humanities and languages at the college-level for more than 25 years. She is an award-winning painter/sculptor and published journalist. She enjoys meeting new people, encountering new places and sharing her ideas and knowledge in an entertaining way.


WILLIAM L. DAVIDSON is the show's producer/engineer. At his Tampa Bay Recording Studio DND Records he has been recording music for bands and individual performers for over 25 years.
He is originally from Virginia with European roots, French, not German, and he enjoys working with the German Radio Show.

ANNELIESE SCHMIDT is our correspondent in the arts. She was born in Stuttgart, grew up in Berlin, and spent many years traveling the world. She is a published travel writer, most recently having returned from Vietnam,China and the Indian Ocean. She enjoys the arts and has contributed features on German museum exhibitions, travel, and personal experience. After having lived in Paris for 17 years, she currently resides in Wiesbaden,Germany.

Elisabeth Haslebacher is our Swiss connection, contributing information and a segment on "Bern Deutsch", as she and Susanne Nielsen explore the similarities and unique differences of the Swiss and German languages.

RENATE SCHAUER is our correspondent for informative news from many German sources. The seasoned journalist, ghost writer and blogger who divides her time between Florida and Stuttgart sends regular reports to keep our listeners/readers informed on current events. Five weeks of Oktoberfest celebrations are announced annually on the German Radio Show, and representatives of the show visit during each fest.  Florida's Oktoberfest follows the Munich tradition, beginning in late September.  Great food and beverages are available at our sponsor locations throughout West Florida. Oktoberfest is celebrated outdoors under the big oktoberfest tent, and in many German restaurants!
